Yes—in the name of good-natured Olympic competition, I’ve switched my Facebook and Twitter profile picture. I’m committed to Team Canada even if they’re not going to “own the podium.”

Tom Brokaw attempted to explain the relationship between my two home countries, Canada and the US, a few days ago in this video piece, which aired right before the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. It’s a few days old now and I knew just about every fact Brokaw mentions, but as a primer on the subject, I thought the piece was well produced, accurate and definitely worth a view.

It was a beautiful day on the slopes of Whistler today. We couldn’t have asked for better weather for skiing and for watching skiing. After hitting the slopes, we got a place in the crowd to watch Lindsey Vonn take to the mountain. VIDEO

While waiting for the men’s biathlon to start today, we were entertained by a remix of the old standard, New York, New York. The words were adjusted to accommodate our Canadian surroundings, which means we ended up with a folksy rendition that I’ll call Whistler, Whistler. VIDEO

I love Whistler. There are many reasons to love this winter paradise, but today I’m talking about specifically what’s going on in the above photograph.  I saw people getting caught with booze at security yesterday.
