News that a jobs bill cleared a key hurdle in the Senate with the help of a few Republican backers was front-page news in 12 papers, while the same number reported on an Afghan immigrant’s guilty plea in his trial for plotting a terrorist attack in New York. Eleven publications ran stories on the intensifying investigations into Toyota, with some saying criminal and securities charges could be brought against the automaker.
