The most widely-reported event in today’s papers was, unsurprisingly, the Olympics. Appearing on 28 front pages was coverage of the US men’s hockey team’s upset of host nation Canada and American Bode Miller’s long-awaited gold medal in the super-combined skiing event. Reports that the Taliban, although outnumbered by US troops, are digging in for a long fight in Marjah was a top story in 13 papers this morning, while the same number ran articles on today’s unveiling of President Obama’s new health care plan, which he hopes will bridge the gap between the Senate and House bills. Ten publications reported on the new, stricter credit card laws that come into effect today and are meant to help protect consumers.
