I don’t think I’ve ever read about a celebrity whose popularity hinged on the fact that their eyes are crossed. But according to a little blurb I read in the New York Post this morning, that’s exactly what has made Heidi, the cross-eyed opossum, so popular in Germany. The only problem? A new diet is threatening to turn straighten out her eyes and diminish her appeal. VIDEO

If Archie couldn’t choose, how am I supposed to? Yesterday, I noticed frequent Pat’s Papers retweeter Alex Segura had recently taken a job with Archie Comics. So I tweeted a photo that the legendary Archie Comics artist Dan DeCarlo did for me in Edmonton in 1992. And apparently, some people were amused to see a different guy sandwiched between Betty and Veronica.

I just left the Apple Store, where I presented Pat’s Paper reader Jenn Sittig with her brand-new iPad. Jenn won our free giveaway by signing up to get our daily email. Here’s something else besides snowy boots to worry about on your way home today. Yes, there is yet another rat-on-the-subway video. The New York Post rightly points out the freaked out passengers as the video’s highlight. I totally agree.

With the heavy snow in New York this morning, I did the opening block of our 9 am hour on the roof of our newsroom. NY1 weatherman John Davitt even played along with my invitation to test the consistency of the snow for snow angels.

We were on the air an hour early with our snow coverage on NY1.  Here are a few pictures from my commute.  There was well over a foot on the roof at my building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

I came across a great analysis while pouring over coverage of last night’s State of the Union address. The BBC took the text from every presidential address since 1790 and ran them through a word counter. Then they looked at which “nouns and adjectives (and one pronoun)” showed up the most frequently over the past 221 years. ‘We’ was the hands-down winner.

My fantastic co-anchor from my CNNfn days spoke about her new book last night at an event I attended. “Smart is the New Rich” is a common-sense, plain-language guide to money and investing. And the key message is to live within your means.
