  1. Lawn Chair Jesus

Usually I shy away from the I-saw-Jesus-in-my-plate-of-french-fries stories. But I’ve got to admit this one is uncanny. An Orange County couple who describe themselves as “not overly religious” found a picture of Jesus on an old lawn chair while doing some cleaning. Check it out:

  2. IBM Jeopardy Challenge: Is Watson the Best Buzzer Pusher Ever?

A quick reaction blog post after seeing the first night of the IBM Watson vs. Jeopardy Champions challenge on Jeopardy. It was an impressively close contest last night. But every time Alex called “Watson” as the first to buzz in, I wondered if Watson had a buzzer advantage.

  3. Jeopardy’s Man vs. Machine Features Two Great Humans

Tonight’s the night the IBM computer Watson faces two Jeopardy veterans, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. I worked with both men on GSN’s Grand Slam a few years ago and can assure you that Watson’s got a tough assignment.

  4. Tiny House Squeezed into 24 Rooms

There’s efficient and then there’s efficient, Hong Kong-style. My pal sent along this crazy video of a 344-square-foot apartment in Hong Kong. The crazy thing is that the architect managed to squeeze in 24 rooms to the floor plan by putting them on sliding panels and stacking them behind one another. I thought space-starved New Yorkers might find some inspiration in the design, dubbed the “Domestic Transformer.”

  5. Steve Jobs Nervous in Vintage TV Interview

Maybe Steve Jobs hasn’t been in a fashion rut for the past ten years. Maybe his default black-shirt-blue-jeans outfit works kind of like shield, protecting him from the insecurities normal people suffer from, like stage fright. Jobs isn’t wearing his usual uniform in this amazing video I just found. It’s of his first TV appearance decades ago. I don’t whether it’s the cameras, his enormous glasses or the brown suit but the usually calm and collected Apple chief looks visibly nervous in the clip.

NY1 producer Tim Hill sparked great excitement in the newsroom this morning when he informed the morning crew that the company had free iPads available. But there were only 6 left, he noted.

  7. Everybody Flushes At Once, the Super Bowl Edition

The most clicked PatsPapers.com posting ever was almost a year ago, when I wrote about a water-use graph prepared by the utility company in Edmonton. Now, I present the US equivalent from Super Bowl Sunday.

  8. Pat Picks His Top Ten From Most Beautiful Actresses List

“The 50 Most Beautiful Women in Film.” That’s a hard headline not to click on. I didn’t even try to resist when I saw it on the LA Times homepage. And I’ve got to say, the resulting list is interesting. There are the women you might expect, like Grace Kelly, and some you might not, like Blake Lively. And then there are some names, like Louise Brooks, that I’d never heard before. After making it through the Times’ selections, I felt inspired to create my whole list.

  9. You’re Not Smarter Than This Two-Year-Old

What does a cat say? Meow. What does Richard Nixon say? I’m not a crook. Chances are, you’re not smarter than this two-year-old. A reader tipped me off about this awesome video, highlighting Charlotte the toddler and her impressive grasp of presidential trivia. Not only can Charlotte identify presidents by picture and name them, she can rattle off their most iconic catchphrases too.
