  1. NYC Weather: Trouble for 4 PM Tennis

I just got my morning briefing from our NY1 meteorologist. It’s still almost 12 hours away, but based on what we know so far the USTA couldn’t have picked a worse time for the re-scheduled men’s singles final.

  2. Don’t Take My Co-Pilot Away

I understand offering a smaller package of pretzels. I even understand charging for checked baggage. But please don’t take my co-pilot away. I read yesterday that kooky Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary is trying to cut costs again by eliminating something he sees as unnecessary: two pilots in the cockpit. Whatever the saving is for flying on the one-pilot plane, count me out. I understand that they pretty much fly themselves nowadays. But I’d still like the comfort of having a two-person crew in the cockpit.

  4. ‘Captcha’ Requirement Gets Increasingly Long-Winded

I understand and tolerate the requirement on some websites that you complete a “CAPTCHA” test to prove that you’re not an automated system trying to steal content or hoard tickets. But the Wall Street Journal’s CAPTCHA tests are getting increasingly ridiculous.

  5. Amazon Tackles “Wrap Rage” But Ignores Its Own Packaging Peeves

Amazon is leading the charge against superfluous packing. And there’s an article about it in the business section of today’s New York Times. I think it’s great that they are telling manufacturers that they don’t want the same shoplifter-proof plastic packaging that goes to bricks-and-mortar stores. But maybe while they’re tackling that problem they could also look at their own packaging.

  6. The “Grass is Green” for Pat

New York Observer Media reporter Zeke Turner caught up with me after the New York Attorney General debate last night in Manhattan. He had a lot of questions about opportunities away from New York 1. I told him I love having the flexibility to do outside projects like “World Series of Pop Culture,” but appreciate the fact that I can work on those projects without giving up my longtime morning job.

  7. Pat Hosts Attorney General Debate

I hosted the debate last night between the five Democrats running in next week’s primary for Attorney General of New York. The New York Times said the “90-minute debate was rich with moments of disagreement, revelation and humor.” You can watch it in its entirety on the NY1 website.

  8. Fan at US Open Captures Stadium Fight on Video

I innocently went to Arthur Ashe stadium last night to see some tennis at the US Open. But the main attraction turned out to be a fight in the Upper Deck. I was too far away to really see what was going on. But the New York Post got a couple of great pictures. And then I found this video. A woman got upset with a man for his foul language. She confronted him. He argued back. Then another man got involved.

  9. Editorial Misjudgment

Newsday’s editors have lost their minds. With Hurricane Earl barreling toward the eastern end of the paper’s market on Long Island, its front-page headline is “Mortgages at 40-Year Low.” Huh? They obviously got the memo—the storm is mentioned in the top right-hand corner of the front page.
