Today is National Bike-to-Work Day in the US. But no matter how many people take part in the US, it will be nothing compared to this impressive time-lapse video of a bicycle rush hour in the Dutch city of Utrecht. It’s been getting some attention in the UK where it has apparently sparked up a lively discussion about the merits of a bike commuting culture.

In a news industry dominated by RSS feeds, Facebook and Twitter, David Carr of the New York Times describes them as ?naked little creatures that have to go out into the world to stand and fight on their own.? At Pat’s Papers, we try not to become to beholden to the Internet search gods. But after a couple well-formed headlines significantly bumped us up in Google results, we found it hard to resist. The upshot is that our most promising stories are often sent to the RSS feed cloaked in the headline equivalent of a burka.

I’ve written several columns this year about American Idol, the most recent of which observed that it’s been a little off this season. But it’s still one of my favorite shows and one of the few I clear my schedule to watch. In the Sunday New York Times, EW.com blogger Michael Slezak delivers a perfect summary of what’s right about Idol.

The full-page ad in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal says “We (heart) Apple.” But it doesn’t seem like there’s much love behind this shot at Apple’s anti-Flash policy for the iPhone and iPad.
