The Dutch Show How Bike Commuting is Done

Today is National Bike-to-Work Day in the US. But no matter how many people take part in the US, it will be nothing compared to this impressive time-lapse video of a bicycle rush hour in the Dutch city of Utrecht. It’s been getting some attention in the UK where it has apparently sparked up a lively discussion the merits of a bike commuting culture.
The video shows a normal Wednesday morning, around 8:30am. The original eight minutes of footage was compressed down to two minutes in order to show off the efficiency of the Dutch system. The video’s creators say this is what happens when bicycle-only routes are set up. A third of traffic is made up of bicyclists. And I’ve got to say it looks a lot different than rush hour in Manhattan.
