Woman Punches Bear to Save Dog

Brooke Collins is undeniably her dog’s best friend after she punched a black bear, who wanted to snack on little Fudge the dachshund, in the face. The Juneau Empire says it’s not uncommon to see bears milling around residential neighborhoods in Alaska. What is unusual was the 22-year-old woman’s gutsy response. Collins says she didn’t see the bear when she let her dogs outside, like she does every evening. It wasn’t until Fudge was ensnared in the mouth of a hungry bear that she knew she had to act quickly.
