Review: Blackberry Still in the Game

I’ll just gloss over the silliness of Alicia Keys being named “Creative Director” for Blackberry.  Instead, we’ll focus on the reviews for Blackberry’s latest effort to stay in the smartphone game. Generally, the assessment is positive. In the Wall Street Journal, Wall Mossberg is cautiously optimistic, saying he likes the way the virtual keyboard and camera look and the way messages are consolidated but worries about the limited number of available apps and that there’s no cloud-based storage system. USA Today‘s Ed Baig says the Blackberry Z10 is good enough to keep the company in the game, but not quite good enough to oust Apple’s iPhone or Samsung’s Galaxy S III. In the New York Times, David Pogue is the most enthusiastic, going so far as to apologize for saying RIM (now rebranded as Blackberry) is a doomed company. He calls the Z10 a “Hail Mary pass [that’s] lovely, fast and efficient, bristling with fresh, useful ideas.”
