The New York Times’ story on the BlackBerry encryption controversy is excellent. Research in Motion says it won’t budge despite efforts by the UAE and Saudi Arabia to get the company to reveal the content of messages passing through its network. RIM says that its top-notch security is why it’s been so successful in winning the trust of corporations and law enforcement agencies. The UAE announced it will start blocking BlackBerry messages this fall; Saudi Arabia is planning a similar measure for later this month.
