VIDEO: See How Fast Felix Spins in Red Bull Jump

Yesterday, Felix Baumgartner became the first human to break the sound barrier, reports the New York Times. The Austrian daredevil completed the highest and fastest jump in history by climbing to 128,100 feet in a helium balloon. He then jumped from a capsule attached to the balloon, and plummeted. The journey back to Earth took a little more than four minutes as he traveled 833.9 miles per hour, reaching Mach 1.24.



Baumgartner went into a frightening spin shortly after the jump began. The Red Bull team has released video from one of the cameras on the skydiver’s suit which shows his view in the dangerous spin, and then shows the view of the earth stabliizing as he regained control.  Baumgartner managed to right himself in time for a smooth landing.

 
After he was back on firm ground, he told reporters: “Trust me, when you stand up there on top of the world, you become so humble. It’s not about breaking records any more. It’s not about getting scientific data. It’s all about coming home.”
