Florida is going ahead with its plan to employee citizen python hunters. Almost 400 people have signed up for the state’s 2013 Python Challenge, which will take place this weekend, says the Sun Sentinel. The aim is to kill as many Burmese Pythons as possible, with prizes for the longest ($1,000) and the most ($1,500). No experience with snakes is necessary and only those under 18 need a hunting licence to participate.
