Woman Wrestles Clip Away from Arizona Gunman

If you need someone new to look up to, try Patricia Maisch. She’s the 61-year-old woman who wrestled a second magazine clip away from Jared Loughner, the 22-year-old man who, on Saturday, killed six people and wounded 13 others, including US Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords. Maish grabbed the clip from Loughner after he’d been wrestled to the ground by two other bystanders says the New York Post.

Dr. Steve Rayle and Joseph Zamudio were the men who jumped into action after hearing the first round of shots, tackling Loughner to the ground. Both had attended the event on a whim: Rayle’s girlfriend thought it would be fun for him to meet the Congresswoman and talk shop about health care; Zamudio had just finished breakfast with his mother.  Both men also happened to be armed. The Arizona Republic says of it weren’t for their quick action, plus Maisch’s brave grab, Saturday’s death toll would’ve likely been doubled.

The New York Times’ Adam Nagourney writes a great recreation of the events in Tuscon in this morning’s paper.
