Why Can’t I Use My iPhone at Work?

Good news. If you’re a BlackBerry-by-day, iPhone-by-night person, you might soon have a free hand. The Wall Street Journal has a special section in today’s paper about the waning hegemony of BlackBerry as the phone of choice for the business world. These days, more companies are letting their employees use personal smartphones to do business. But with the freedom to choose comes several added responsibilities: because iPhones or Android phones don’t have the level of security BlackBerry is known for, “a higher level of accountability” is sought from employees. That could mean anything from using and managing a smartphone’s password setting to chipping in financially.

In other iPhone news, the Wall Street Journal says the Apple smartphone collects data even when its location function is switched to off. Last week, the San Jose Mercury News reported that two researchers found a file that records your location on all devices running Apple’s iOS operating system (iPads, iPhones, Ipods)  and on computers used to sync iOS devices.
