Travel Strategy: Two Tickets Cheaper Than One

Cheap airline tickets are hiding in plain sight, according to the Wall Street Journal’s Scott McCartney. He says buying two discounted tickets instead of flying on one can often yield savings up to 30 percent. The trick is knowing which gateway citys have deals. For example: A Dallas-Düsseldorf trip in May costs about $1,337. But a flight from Chicago to Düsseldorf is only $677. Add on a $243 Dallas-Chicago round-trip and you’ve saved more than $400.
