Toy Update: Sweden Goes Gender Neutral

The European company Top Toy has done something new in Sweden, says the Wall Street Journal: a gender neutral toy catalog. The company made the switch after receiving criticism from the country’s top advertising watchdog. In Denmark, however it’s business as usual. The Journal prints side-by-side shots of the same catalog—in the Danish version girls are featured doing traditionally girl things while in the Swedish version “girls brandish toy guns and boys wield blow-dryers.”
