A group of high school girls in Texas has done the unthinkable says the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: they’ve put down their blush brushes and mascara wands—voluntarily. The club, now 180 members strong, abstains from wearing any makeup one day a week to “empower girls to resist stereotypes based on appearance.” Experts say reinforcing self-esteem is a powerful way to keep girls away from dangerous behaviors like anorexia or tanning.

The girls say they were inspired by operationbeautiful.com, a guerrilla organization that plants inspiring, anonymous messages around the country.
