I can hear the announcement now: “In case of emergency, please remove your bra…” The New York Daily News takes a look at a new bra that doubles as a gas mask. Actually, it turns into two masks—just take it off and strap one cup to your face and the other to a braless friend in distress.

When, you might ask, would something like this come in handy? The inventor says she was inspired by images of Chernobyl and September 11. She received an Ig Nobel grant for her design, an award that “recognizes seemingly ridiculous research that’s actually useful.” Now she’s working on a (non-lingerie) equivalent for men.
