Aren’t we glad we don’t live in 1944 when the only sunscreen was something called red vet pet, a red greasy ointment used by veterinarians? The New York Times has an interesting look at the history of sunscreen and the many evolutions it has gone through, the latest being the FDA’s proposal to rate sunscreens on their ability to black UVA rays, which SPF doesn’t cover.
