Study: One in Seven Americans Choose Pet Over Spouse

I hope this survey was anonymous. According to a recent AP poll, 14 percent of Americans said if they had to choose between their pet and their spouse, they’d chose their pet. Wow. The Columbus Dispatch tracked down one woman who summed up her logic this way: “I can always find a new spouse, but a good German shepherd’s hard to find.” The numbers were higher for unmarried pet owners—25 percent said they would choose their animals over their human partners.
