A new report has found that repeatedly hitting a soccer ball with one’s head can cause brain damage, even if a player does not sustain a concussion. The resulting damage looks “that of patients with mild traumatic brain injury,” researchers concluded after studying MRIs of dozens of professional soccer players. The LA Times says the report is likely to spark a debate, especially among parents who consider soccer a safer alternative to football.
