Scandal Season: St. Louis Welcomes Its Own Twitter Melee

Anthony Weiner isn’t the only one with a Twitter scandal. St. Louis is embroiled in its own, says the Post-Dispatch, one complete with young girls and public officials. Apparently, what started off as an innocent conversation between two tweens—one a fan of Miley Cyrus, the other a Selena Gomez devotee—quickly turned into a virtual mudslinging fight between public officials representing St. Louis (the city) and St. Louis (the county).

Here’s what happened: Trying to clarify that she lived in the county, not the city, Tween #1 (@MileyLikeABoss) tweeted Tween #2 (@EpicSelenator) with this message: “STL city is downtown. the county is so much nicer.” The guy who mans the official St. Louis County Twitter feed saw the message and replied: “@MileyLikeABoss thanks for the #StLCo love.” And then the tweets hit the fan. A rep for the city of St. Louis caught wind of the exchange and chimed in. She was quickly followed by dozens of Missourians weighing in, some more diplomatically than others, on the merits of county vs city life.
