Quiet Earp: Utah Town First to Launch Police Blimp

It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s….the cops? According to the Seattle Times, a city in northwest Utah is set to become the first in the nation to employ a police blimp. Traveling at speeds of four to six miles an hour, the “cop-in-the-sky” will be unmanned but will feature several cameras, including an infrared one for nighttime snooping. It will also stream live video to a control center down on the ground.  Authorities hope residents will think twice about committing crimes in they know something is watching them from above.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported the story earlier this week, cleverly describing the blimp as “Quiet Earp”
