You may pay a little more for a chair engineered to hold 800 pounds, but there’s a much better chance you’ll find such a chair available for sale these days. The Los Angeles Times says furniture makers have responded to demands for furniture on a bigger scale.
Sometimes it’s just because homes are bigger and people want furniture that fills their rooms. But often it’s because the users of the furniture have gotten bigger. Like the “mother-daughter” chair which salespeople admit is most often purchased by someone who doesn’t intend to share it with anybody.
