“Pony-Tailed Pitcher” First Woman to Throw to MLBers

Who’s that pitcher with the ponytails? That’s the question flying around MLB spring training camps this year says the Arizona Republic. Her name is Justine Siegal and she’s thought to be the first woman ever to throwing practice pitches to major-leaguers. Last week, she worked out with the Cleveland Indians. Next up, the Oakland A’s. Siegal says she got her gig by cold-calling almost every MLB manager and asking to pitch for batting practice. Most teams ignored her, she says and one straight-up told her no. But Siegal’s difficulties didn’t stop after cajoling a few teams into letting on the mound—baseball pants, which are cut for men, posed a new set of problems.
