Quite a few stories have recently highlighted the prevalence of Medicare scams. But none have caught my eye quite like the article on the front page of today’s Miami Herald about two Florida men who allegedly bilked the government out of more than $20,000 by submitting false claims for penis pumps. The men are also charged with billing the government for “vacuum erection systems to [help] female patients battle erectile dysfunction.” Apparently, south Florida is the capital of Medicare fraud; 90 percent of the vacuum erection systems that the agency reimbursed for went to businesses in the area.
