Navigating Between Kids and Technology

There are two good stories about technology and parenting in today’s New York Times. The first one is about when to buy your kid a cell phone. Apparently, age 11 is when the desire to constantly text their friends begins. The paper says 75 percent of the country’s 12 to 17 year old own a cell phone. Experts say when a child begins moving from one place to another by themselves is usually a good time to get them one.

The second story advises parents to stop Blackberrying so much and start paying attention to their children. Child development experts say kids often feel like they’re competing with your phone for your attention.
