Mom Denied Custody Because of Breast Cancer

According to the Chicago Tribune, Alaina Giordano was just denied custody of her kids for an unusual reason: because she has stage four breast cancer. A North Carolina judge just ruled against the woman after her ex-husband argued in court that her unemployment and uncertain health make her unfit to watch their children full time.
ABC News broke the woman’s story after getting their hands on the court documents, in which the judge based his custody decision on the fact that “the course of her disease is unknown” and “children who have a parent with cancer need more contact with the non-ill parent.” Giordano is living in North Carolina because she is being treated at Duke Medical Centers; her former husband lives in Chicago.
