Missouri Town “Shredded” By Tornado

Joplin, Missouri is reeling after a tornado ripped through the town on Sunday, killing at least 89 people. TV stations were knocked off the air, whole neighborhoods were demolished and a local hospital in the twister’s path took a direct hit says the Kansas City Star. A spokeswoman for the Red Cross estimated that 75 percent of the town “is virtually gone.”

The Joplin Globe says rescuers reported finding bodies in places “where people attempted to seek shelter from the storm but were crushed by falling roofs.”
