The Wall Street Journal introduces readers to a new abbreviation in this morning’s paper: LAT. “Living apart together,” is apparently a choice many baby boomers are contemplating as retirement age nears. The idea is a simple one: couples stay married but choose to live in different locations in order to pursue the dreams they’ve postponed until retirement. Experts attribute the shift to a larger one going on in the workforce: “Retirement used to be a male transition that wives really just accommodated. Now women are taking the lead and planning what is going to come next. There’s a ‘his’ and a ‘her’ view of things.”
