Kids Say the %$&##&@%# Things

As the Sacramento Bee puts it, “kids say the darndest things – except they don’t say ‘darn’.” Recent studies have found that three and four year olds have a vocabulary of about 40 swear words. That’s nothing new according to experts, who stress that learning to curse is part of growing up. What is new, however, is that kids are picking up dirtier words at a younger age.
If your kid starts swearing, stay calm and try to teach them the appropriate places to express themselves. The Bee has a perfect example, that I must copy in full below:
One day, the family was at a picnic when they heard their son screaming. When the parents ran to the boy, who was sitting forlornly on the ground, he told them his 2-year-old brother had just peed in his face.
He asked if this was the right time to call someone a combination of the f-word and the a-word.
“I looked at him and said ‘Yes, this is the right time,’ ” [the boy’s father] said.
