Joke’s on Them: Parents’ Scare Tactic Ends in Charges

Note to parents: When threatening to drop off an unruly child at the police station, make sure to check that it’s OK with the cops first. That’s something two New York parents neglected to do, reports the Staten Island Advance, and now they’re the ones in trouble with police and facing charges. The 25 and 27-year-old parents say they only meant to scare their six-year-old daughter when they drove up to a precinct house late last week.
According to police, the mom walked up to the desk and told the officer on duty the following: “I can’t take her anymore. She is uncontrollable. I’m going to leave her here. If you don’t take her, I will take her to the firehouse.” They say the woman gave no indication—not even a “wink or nod”—that she was joking. Eventually, the father came inside and let officers in on the plan, but by then it was too late.
