Eugene Polley died over the weekend at the age of 96. You might not know his name, but chances are your life has been affected by his work. Polley invented the TV remote control back in 1955, which he called the “Flash-Matic.” A New York Times obituary says his invention “fostered blissful sloth, caused decades of domestic discord and forever altered the way consumers watch television.”
