Hair Donations Used For Homemade Booms

The Tampa Tribune says hair donations are flooding into Florida as residents try and protect their coastline from oil spill damage. The hair is stuffed in pantyhose to fashion homemade booms, which can absorb up to 50 times their weight (think about those days you don’t wash your hair) in oil. Alpaca hair seems to be the most prized but residents are welcoming the clippings from salons and pet groomers as well. Hanes has even stepped up and donated 50,000 pairs of pantyhose.
