Future of Silly Bandz Lies in Adults, West Coast

Silly Bandz aren’t just for kids anymore. The plastic bracelet craze has taken root with adults says the New York Times. Everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to Anthony Bourdain has been photographed with the colorful bling around their wrists. The man behind the accessory phenomenon says he’s not surprised: ?When we developed them, we always thought they?d be a great fashion accessory for all ages. Kids just took to them first.?

USA Today went to the Silly Bandz warehouse in Toledo to see what’s in the pipeline for the burgeoning company. CEO Robert Croak says versions that change color in the sun (think Hypercolor) and a necklace that doubles as a silly bandz holder (think charm bracelet) will hit stores soon. Croak has refused offers to sell his company; he thinks there’s about five years before Silly Bandz lose their cachet, pointing out that the bracelets haven’t even heated up on the West Coast yet.
