Brooklyn may be home to a growing community of strollers, play groups and nannies but when it comes to having kids, the New York Times says many mothers choose to deliver their children at hospitals in Manhattan. An analysis by the paper found that hospitals in the “Brownstone Belt” of Brooklyn lost patients while births at four hospitals in Manhattan grew by 31 percent.
The analysis also found that those same parents didn’t hesitate to use their Brooklyn hospitals for routine emergency care. As one Brooklyn mother, who is planning to deliver in Manhattan explained it: ?I do think of myself as living in New York City proper, and I don?t really make a distinction about certain life choices based on whether it?s in my borough or not. Manhattan has some of the best doctors in the country. I live 25 to 45 minutes away from them. Why would I not choose them??
