“Fear the Beard”

Is it real? Is it fake? Is it dyed? As the Giants get ready for the National League playoffs, the San Jose Mercury News says the question on people’s mind is not whether they’ll win or lose—it’s what’s up with relief pitcher Brian Wilson’s beard? 

His facial hair isn’t the only unorthodox element of Wilson’s look—he’s also heavily tattooed and frequently sports a mohawk. The beard, though, causes the most attention as it appears to be “colored with black shoe polish.” Wilson’s bushy look has inspired several of his teammates to abandon their razors as well. It’s also inspired the crowd to cheer “Fear the Beard” when Wilson is on the mound.
