“Trusted and tart-tongued, she was advisor to millions,” reads the front-page headline for Pauline Phillips in this morning’s Minneapolis Star Tribune. Better known as “Dear Abby,” the Twin Cities native died yesterday at the age of 94. The Star-Tribune obituary is actually from the New York Times, which illustrates Phillips’ gift for advice-giving with her answer to a man name Ed, who wonders whether it’s okay that his new wife fixes breakfast “in the raw.” She writes: Dear Ed, It’s O.K. with me. But tell her to put on an apron when she’s frying bacon.
