Crazy Boats of America’s Cup

The Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics are the only sporting events going on this February. The New York Times has a great story about the crazy boats they’ve built to try to win the America’s Cup, which was scheduled to begin today. One of the stranger innovations is something called a wing sail, which the Times describes as looking like “someone wrenched a wing off a large jetliner and perched it, tip up, atop a trailer hitch on the boat?s middle hull.” Because of inconsistent winds, the start date has been pushed to Wednesday.
