Christmas Trees Help Dunes Recover After Sandy

There’s an interesting idea detailed in the New York Times this morning. Christmas trees are being strategically dumped on shorelines that were decimated by Hurricane Sandy as a way to try to collect windblown sand and rebuild dunes. From a distance the trees look like a “large pod of exceptionally fuzzy seals,” but experts hope that the trees will encourage natural growth to start again and re-build what was blown away.
