China Overtakes US in Energy Consumption

China has officially overtaken the US as the largest consumer of power in the world reports the Wall Street Journal this morning. Experts say the change could have “long-term implications” on America’s energy security. Because China doesn’t produce that much oil, their purchasing power around the world has increased, which could have foreign policy implications for the US. While Chinese energy consumption has been on the ascent for years, last year the country used about four percent more than the US. But the Journal says it’s not a mantel the Chinese want; they’ve refuted the finding, published by the International Energy Agency, but have yet to offer up their own data.
