Army Changes Its Camouflage Pattern

Camouflage only works if it blends into its surroundings. That’s why the US Army is spending between $200 million and $270 million to revamp its uniforms for its soldiers fighting in Afghanistan. USA Today says the new pattern, called multicam, fades to green when in the forest and appears tan in the desert. The material is also less reflective than the one it is replacing, so those fighting at night will also blend in better when viewed through infrared goggles. According to officials, the current pattern “stands out like a sore thumb” in Afghanistan.
