Archaeological Dig Turns Up Mystery Discs

An archaeological dig in Alaska has turned up a mystery, reports the Anchorage Daily News this morning. Four small clay discs were discovered on the dig, two with small holes drilled in the center. Scientists estimate that the objects are about 1000 years old; what they can’t figure out is what the heck they are. Guesses run the gamut: gaming pieces, jewelry, pottery—no one is quite sure. Adding to the confusion are several human-made markings, which, depending on who you ask, could be maps or a storytelling or mystical symbols or just decoration.
