AMA Condemns Photoshopping in Advertising

Photoshopping has just acquired a formidable foe: the AMA. At its most recent meeting, the American Medical Association decided that it wants advertisers to stop slimming down models because the practice creates “unrealistic expectations of appropriate body image” and can lead to other health problems reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Leading the charge were the AMA’s younger members, who, citing evidence that 78 percent of 17-year-old American girls say they are unhappy with their bodies, said it was time for the medical community to speak out on the issue.
