The 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief was a six-hour spectacle featuring bold-face name after bold-face name. It was also a huge success, says Jim Farber in the New York Daily News, with nearly 2 billion people tuning in—the biggest musical event of its kind in history. Bruce Springsteen kicked off the evening and invited fellow New Jerseyan John Bon Jovi on stage for “Born to Run.” The Stones played “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and Paul McCartney brought up the remaining members of Nirvana to back him on a new song. As Mick Jagger put it: “This has got to be the largest collection of old English musicians ever assembled at Madison Square Garden.” Also: Kayne West was inexplicably wearing a skirt.
