WSJ Expands Staff for New York Edition

The Wall Street Journal’s New York edition will be a far more agressive assault on the New York Times than first indicated, reports the New York Observer.

Reporter John Koblin says three dozen staffers will be assigned to the Journal’s New York paper when it launches on April 12th. That’s three times as many as first reported. Koblin says several writers from the late New York Sun are joining the Journal staff, and the content of the local section is likely to bear a resemblance to the Sun.

And while we’re on the topic of the New York City newspapers, the Observer’s other revelation today is about Newsday’s pay wall. Most of the paper’s traditional readers have access to the password-protected website because they subscribe to the print edition or other Cablevision services. But the stunner is that outside that group the website only has 35 paying customers.
