“Where” Is One of the 5 Ws

I’m annoyed with the New York Times this morning, which seems to have gone out of its way to omit any reference to NY1 in its story about the New York State Comptroller debate I moderated last night.

I’m not asking for a big pat on the back. It doesn’t even have to be prominent in the story. But in what’s otherwise the most comprehensive newspaper story about the debate between Tom DiNapoli and Harry Wilson, there’s no mention of where it happened or where it was televised. In fact, the only way you’d know it was on NY1 is by looking at the logos in the background on the photograph. There was also no mention of the venue: Pace University in Manhattan.

On the NY1 “In the Papers” segment today, I’ll be referring to the Times as “one of the newspapers.”

UPDATE: Although it’s not reflected in the print edition, at some point this morning after I first wrote this post, the Times updated the online version of the story to include a brief mention of NY1 and Pace. I’m glad the oversight was noted.

On the Web

Reluctantly, I’m providing the link to the story in question. If you’d like to read what one of the newspaper’s reporters wrote you can see it here.

The debate was quite lively and both candidates had a chance to make their key points. It’s online in its entirety at NY1.com.
