Where is Citi Field?

I’m headed to the National Tennis Center tonight to see some of the US Open. If I can figure out what time the train leaves.

I spent about 5 minutes trying to find the “TO” station on the Long Island Railroad’s online schedule. It used to be the “Shea Stadium” station. But now the alphabetical list jumps straight from “Seaford” to “Smithtown.”

I tried the obvious: the new stadium is Citi Field. But there’s no such station. I tried nearby Willets Point. Still no matching station. Maybe it’s Flushing Meadows-Corona Park? (nothing there either.) There’s also nothing for National Tennis Center. Nor is there a “US Open” station.

After Googling around a bit I remembered that there had been an attempt by the MTA to get Citibank to buy the name of the LIRR station next to the new stadium. When that failed they came up with the brilliant idea to call it the “Mets” station. I have now committed this to memory. And determined that I want to be on the 6:14 pm train.
