February 2nd Update: In recognition of the European format palindrome day, Aziz has posted new video.
That’s basically the whole story. In the numerical US format, today’s date reads the same forward and backward. A Baltimore Sun article points out this only happens 12 times this century.
The Los Angeles Times interviewed Professor Aziz Inan, who keeps track of these things on his website. (That’s where I got the photo.) He also provides the palindrome dates in the DDMMYYYY format, which is what I grew up with in Canada.
PS: While we’re on the topic of dates, please join in my campaign to call the year “Twenty Ten” instead of ‘Two Thousand Ten.”
